Carolina-Piedmont Base Meeting Minutes Meeting Date: March 24, 2024 CALL MEETING TO ORDER • Meeting Lead Mike Hubbell called our meeting to order at 1400 hrs. at VFW Post #9138 located in Fort Mill, SC. • The meeting followed our potluck meal including some delicious homemade desserts all brought in by our base families. INVOCATION • Ray Fritz started off our base meeting with words of invocation. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE • All joined in saying our nation’s Pledge of Allegiance, led by Mike Hubbell USSVI CREED • The USSVI Creed was read today by Joel Tuchfeld TOLLING OF THE BOATS • Tolling for the 8 boats, which were lost during February months past, was presented by Ray Fritz and the bell was rung by Joel Tuckfield. MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS • 13 base members were present at today’s meeting. REVIEW OF LAST BASE MEETING MINUTES • Members are reminded that minutes for each previous month’s base meeting are posted on our Carolina Piedmont website at carolinapiedmont.org for their review. Members are encouraged to read the previous month’s meeting minutes prior to attending our next base meeting. No comments or corrections were received on last month’s meeting minutes. READING OF THE TREASURER’S REPORT Base Treasurer Bill Strand read our latest treasurer’s report. No Comments or corrections BASE STOREKEEPER REPORT • Storekeeper was not present so no report. OLD BUSINESS • None NEW BUSINESS • None GOOD OF THE ORDER • Base Elections for 2024 Election results were reported by Joel Tuchfeld who was the official vote tallier. Of the votes he had they all were for the two nominees John McHugh for Vice Commander and Bill Strand for Treasurer. Joel indicated that all cast votes were for the two nominees, asked if anyone present hadn’t voted and if there were votes for other than for the nominees. Since no one indicated to the contrary – Joel proposed we make the vote unanimous, it was so moved, seconded and adopted. • Bilge Rats This year’s Bilge Rat playbill theme is “A Walk Down Memory Lane” and continues with the following performance locations and dates: o The March 28th performance date has been postponed and rescheduled for April 25th at the Senior Group at Grace Lutheran Church on Oakland Ave. in Rock Hill. o April 13th will be our next performance at The Laurels & Haven Village at Carolina Place in Pineville • National Convention – Cleveland OH Aug 20 – 24 Go to the following website to read the instructions and to obtain information regarding the 2024 national convention in Cleveland Ohio. https://subvetconvention.org/tours-and-events Another way is to log in to the USSVI.org website, go to Visitors, then 2024 National Convention • Burnsville – Coming up May 17 – 19 Reminder for those interested in traveling to Burnsville to the Moonshine Mountain Submarine Memorial for the 2024 remembrance ceremony need to begin making their plans and reservations now to stay at the Big Lynn Lodge located on Hwy 226-A in Little Switzerland, NC 28749 soon. o Rick says he and Cindy will be attending this year. o We also understand the memorial service at the submarine memorial will now be held on Saturday morning (verses Saturday afternoon) as it seems we have been inundated with rain on Saturday afternoons in the recent past, so we are trying to outsmart Mother Nature and move the memorial service to Saturday morning. • Maggie Valley Mike Hubble brought up the Celebration that is held on May 25th at the Wheels Through Time museum for active and veteran military and friends and family. • Kings Bay – remined that Kings Bay is coming in November and if you are not retired you need to apply for a base pass. NEXT BASE MEETING • Our next base meeting will be held on Saturday April 27th at 1300 (the fourth Saturday) at the Catawba Park. Gate opens at noon. Maps are available on the web site www.CarolinaPiedmont.org MOTION TO ADJOURN • A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 1442 hours. Motion passed. BENEDICTION • Today’s Benediction was given by Ray Fritz. RAFFLE RESULTS • Bill Strand won today’s raffle.
